Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre and the Cabinet of Ministers met in July, with officials from the Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) and the Owen King EU Hospital to discuss mounting health care costs.

Mounting debt hampered operations at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) and affected service delivery at the Owen King Hospital for years. By 2024, the MHMC was in dire need of financial assistance, with an accrued $16 million in outstanding debt on its books.

The meeting aimed to find a solution to the medical complex’s financial challenges.

Within six weeks of the July 18 meeting, Hon. Prime Minister Pierre secured the funding to assist the MHMC. On August 23, the MHMC received a historic $11 million donation from the Government of Saint Lucia. The funds were sourced from the Saint Lucia Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) following a successful meeting with the CIP board.

The donation from the government will considerably reduce the MHMC's debt and allow its board and management to focus on providing high-quality healthcare to the public.
