Langston Hughes born

Langston Hughes, poet, novelist and playwright was born in Joplin, Missouri. He attended Columbia and Lincoln universities, graduating from the latter. A famed poet, Hughes received numerous honors including his election to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the Spingarn Medal and the Anisfeild-Wolfe Award. Hughes died in 1967.
