Kwanzaa, a Pan-African celebration created in 1966, is a week-long event that emphasizes the seven principles of unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith, and is a way for African Americans to reclaim their histories and foster community and cultural pride.
