BY NIZBERT MOYO/RICHARD MUPONDE/HARRIET CHIKANDIWA FORMER Health and Child Care minister Henry Madzorera has rapped government and questioned its commitment to addressing the deadly COVID-19 pandemic after the number of deaths breached the 1 000 mark on Sunday. Madzorera, who was the Health minister during the Government of National Unity (GNU) from 2009 to 2013, said government should come up with the necessary policies to reduce the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country. He said citizens had been complying with the COVID-19 regulations, whose objective was to flatten the curve of infections, but poor strategies to deal with the pandemic had resulted in an escalation in the number of deaths. “The problem is that we are just on COVID-19 lockdown period (30 days), but we are not doing the other necessary things to ensure that the lockdown works and flattens the curve,” Madzorera said. “I think people are trying hard to isolate themselves, observe general personal hygiene, churches have stopped, we have less funeral gatherings, but people are being constrained by the government which is failing to do its bit in terms of massive testing and isolation,’’ he said. The former Health minister said the country did not have enough resources to get everyone tested, adding that prolonging the lockdown period would be suicidal as government had failed to provide social safety nets to the struggling public. “People will start dying from hunger and starvation without even violating the COVID-19 regulations and businesses are going to fold,” he said. Other health analysts said complacency and failure by the government to listen to advice had led to more COVID-19 deaths. Mpilo Central Hospital acting chief executive officer Solwayo Ngwenya said the country was paying a heavy price for allowing festivities and opening borders. “It started with the reopening of schools in October and then the opening of borders, allowing flights in. So inevitably, they brought in a lot of infections from South Africa over merrymaking at the Christmas holidays and the people disregarded COVID-19 regulations during the period holding by parties and so on,” he said. Itai Rusike, the executive director of the Community Working Group on Health, said politicians were not an essential service and should stay at home. “Politicians are not immune to COVID-19 infections, hence, must also take the disease seriously by adhering to all the World Health Organisation recommended guidelines and also stay at home during this lockdown in order to avoid further loss of lives. “Most of our politicians are old, while others have underlying medical issues which make them very vulnerable to COVID-19 infections,” Rusike said. Investigators will now need the authorization of the court’s judges to open a probe. Bensouda appealed for support from Nigeria’s government.
She said the army has dismissed accusations against government troops after examining them.
Boko Haram strictly opposes formal education. In 2015, Nigeria enlisted the support of neighbors Chad, Cameroon and Niger to try and defeat the group.
While the joint operations made the group lose considerable territory, they have not been able to wipe it out.

The Black Power movement was a political movement to achieve a form of Black Power and the many philosophies it contains. The movement saw various forms of activism some violent and some peaceful, all hoping to achieve black empowerment. The Black Power movement also represented socialist movements, all with the general motivation of improving the standing of black people in society.[1] Originated during the Civil Rights Movement, some doubted the philosophy of the movement begging for more radical action, taking influences from Malcolm X. The cornerstone of the movement was the Black Panther Party, a Black Power organization dedicated to socialism and the use of violence to achieve it.[2] The Black Power movement developed amidst the criticisms of the Civil Rights Movement in the early 1960s, and over time and into the 1970s, the movement grew and became more violent. After years of violence, many left the movement and the police began arresting violent actors in the movement.[3] The Black Power movement also spilled out into the Caribbean creating the Black Power Revolution.
Motivated by principles of community control, Black Power activists founded scores of institutions and services, including black-owned bookstores, food cooperatives, farms, media, printing presses, schools, clinics, and ambulance services.[4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
The first popular use of the term Black Power as a social and racial slogan was by Stokely Carmichael (later known as Kwame Ture) and Willie Ricks (later known as Mukasa Dada), both organizers and spokespersons for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). On June 16, 1966, in a speech in Greenwood, Mississippi after the assassination attempt on James Meredith by Aubrey James Norvell during the March Against Fear, Stokely Carmichael used the term.[10] [11]
By the late 1960s Black Power came to represent the demand for more immediate violent action to counter American white supremacy. Most of these ideas were influenced by Malcolm Xs criticism of Martin Luther
BY KENNETH NYANGANI THE government has started providing security and health provisions to evacuation centres in the seven districts of Manicaland, where scores of people are set to be relocated for safety in the event that Cyclone Chalane hits the country on the New Year’s Eve as expected. Manicaland Provincial Development Coordinator and Civil Protection Unit chairperson Edgar Seenza said that there are also fears of the COVID-19 outbreak if precautionary measures are not followed. Seenza NewsDay that the heavy rains that hit Chimanimani recently were a threat to the lives of many villagers who have already started moving out from the district to seek safety from their families’ homes outside the district. “We have started working on security provisions because as you are aware, in these evacuation centres there would be a lot of people. So we need security for surveillance reasons as a lot happens in such areas,” Seenza said. More to follow…

Of course, manufacturers and restaurants will put sugar in their products, after all, it is addictive and there are reports of fast-food corporations actively researching how to peak their food's addictive component with the manipulation of fats, salt, sugars, and other additives.
What even the most informed among us do not consider is the sugar content in processed and fast-food meats, which is, at times, significant.
For the most part, restaurants and processed meat manufacturers do not list the amounts of sugar in their products.
However, added sugar, in preparations and sauces in the form of molasses, sucrose, dextrose (corn sugar), sorbitol, are listed in the ingredients of a few restaurants' meat products, including KFC, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A, Panera, Subway, Panda Express, Chipotle, McDonald's, and Taco Bell.
Unknown to them, the non-carb, non-sugar meat products and dishes they have been ingesting have been elevating their blood sugar levels for years.
By HOPE YEN Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Sunday he accepts that Sen. Kamala Harris is eligible to serve as vice president, rejecting a false and racist conspiracy theory that President Donald Trump had promoted. 'Sure,' said Meadows, when asked on CNN's 'State of the Union' whether he acknowledges the fact that she meets the constitutional requirements to be president or vice president. 'And I think the president spoke to this yesterday. This is not something that we're going to pursue.' Trump twice this past week declined to say whether he believed […]

In documents presented before the Education Committee, the ministry said trainers, trainees and all staff will be required to be tested, have face masks, soaps, sanitizers and running water before they resume learning.
The Ministry of Health recently announced that testing for COVID-19 has been pegged at Sh1,000 at all public health facilities but it is estimated that the test cost between Sh4,000- Sh10,000 depending on where they are conducted.
The Ministry said it requires a further Sh3.8billion for the expected increase in enrolment of students.
According to the Ministry, the current allocation of Sh5.2 billion only caters for the 173,000 students against a projected enrollment of 300,000 students.

Arizona’s Republican governor shut down bars, movie theaters, gyms and water parks Monday and leaders in several states ordered residents to wear masks in public in a dramatic course reversal amid an alarming resurgence of coronavirus cases nationwide.
In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that he’s postponing the restarting of indoor dining because people have not been wearing face masks or complying with recommendations for social distancing.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said she will issue an executive order mandating the use of masks in stores and shops, restaurants, and in any situation where social distancing of 6 feet (2 meters) cannot be maintained, including outside.
In Texas, a group of bar owners sued on Monday to try to overturn Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s order closing their businesses.
One of Cuomo’s Republican counterparts, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, on a conference call with Vice President Mike Pence and members of the White House coronavirus task force, also asked Pence and Trump to issue a national call to wear masks.
An Economic Crisis
2020 sees Tunisia's budget deficit reaching record levels at around 14% of GDP - as announced by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi on Tuesday calling on the Central Bank to finance it so as to limit the national crisis. At a press conference in Tunis, the Prime Minister addressed the nation, \"The economic situation is very complicated. It must be said that our country has never experienced such a deep economic and social crisis like the one it is currently experiencing. We have closed the financial statements in accordance with the draft finance law and noted that the budget deficit would be around 14%. We will continue to hold meetings with the Central Bank. And we are convinced that the Central Bank is aware that it has an important role to play in limiting the crisis that the country is currently undergoing.\"
The Situation is Complex
The current situation can be attributed to the accumulation of several years of economic, social and political instability compounded by the effects of the covid-19 pandemic. The International Monetary Fund has already said it expects a historic decline in Tunisia's GDP to -7% by 2020, due in particular to the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic.
The IMF's four-year financing plan came to an end in the spring, with no prospects for the future, while Tunis, which has relied heavily on international donors in recent years, is struggling to complete its budget for 2020.
The Central Bank of Tunisia had last week criticized a deficit deemed excessive and a too heavy recourse to domestic financing in the supplementary budget law.

guest column:Erasmus Makarimay PREVIOUSLY I said that every statement in the Bible is truly stated but however not every statement in the Bible is a statement of truth. You would do yourself good to read last week's instalment if you didn't. We ended up analysing Job 1:21, 'And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.' We will presently interrogate this. Even though we can't fully grasp God our Father who's omniscient, His character doesn't oscillate between good and evil. We're given a glimpse in James 3:10-12, '[10] Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. [11] Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? [12] Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.' God is not sum total of good and evil, chaos and order. We can't predict the full counsel of God but we know for sure He's light and doesn't mix with darkness. Let's get back to the Job story. In the whole book of Job we read about his friends trying to explain his predicament. God doesn't want us to figure out His nature from our perspective but from His revelation in Christ in the Gospel or the Grace of God. Human philosophy crumbles at the unveiling of Christ. The Grace of God corrects our wrong appreciation of God the Father. Reading the Old Testament, there are many instances where God is wrongly credited with killing people. Apostle Paul instructs Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15, 'Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.' The Bible needs interpretation and this is through the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:14, Amplified reads, 'But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognising, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.' That's why it's waste of time to argue Scriptures to non-regenerate individuals. What's needed for non-believers is presentation of the Gospel of Christ. The Old Testament is the mystery revealed in the New Testament. Colossians 1:26 records, 'Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:' Jesus Christ is the explanation of all things. Our Lord and Saviour is the Logos or the reason behind and the explanation of all this. He's the mind of God and the Revelation of Scriptures. Oftentimes believers and sometimes preachers say that they have a new or fresh revelation. You may have illumination. Jesus Christ remains the Revelation of the Scriptures. So what does He say about life and death? In John 10:10 He says, 'The thief cometh not, but for to st
