TRINIDAD and Tobago will be under a yellow-level adverse-weather alert from 10 pm on August 9 till 4 pm on August 10.

The Met Office warned people to monitor weather conditions as it is "likely" that the weather conditions will be severe.

In a public warning at 2.44 pm on August 9, the Met Office said there is a high (70 per cent) chance of isolated heavy showers and thunderstorm activity overnight into tomorrow associated with a tropical wave that is traversing the area.

It said, "Peak activity is likely during the pre-dawn hours."

The Met Office warned that these showers can produce intense rainfall in excess of 50mm which can result in likely impacts of street/flash flooding and localised ponding.

Gusty winds in excess of 55km/h may also occur, which can lead to fallen trees, displace unsecured items and agitate seas, it added.

The Met Office said people should not wade or drive through flood waters, and secure loose outdoor items and livestock.
