According to the New York Post, Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus allegedly killed 32-year-old Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus in the couple's apartment on Sunday.

Police arrived at the apartment after getting a call about an unresponsive woman.

Investigators said the Ocean County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the following day and concluded that her death was a homicide.

The investigation also revealed that the couple lived in the same apartment in Brick Township.

Bryan Huntenburg, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said police believe the two women were married.
