Ellis Ross plays a singer in the film “The High Note,” which debuts on-demand, Friday, May 29.
Ellis Ross played a song called “Love Myself” for her mother after she drove to her house and they sat in the driveway.
“The High Note” follows the story of Ellis Ross’ character who’s in the latter part of her career, has a Las Vegas residency, and is battling with a music industry that was kinder to her when she was younger.
Ellis Ross said playing the role of a singer forced her to face her long-standing fear and taught her that she can sing without comparing herself to her mother.
Ellis Ross said that she’s so comfortable singing in public or on a track these days, she’s open to dueting with her mother and siblings Evan Ross, Rhonda Ross, and step-sister Leona Naess.
