Vaughan, Míceál

Míceál Vaughan recently retired as Professor of Comparative Literature and English at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he has served on the faculty since 1973.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1946 he came to the United States in December 1956, settling in St. Paul, Minnesota.  After completing his undergraduate degrees in English and Classics at the College (now University) of St. Thomas there, he pursued his doctorate in English at Cornell University (1969-73).  While he specializes in the study and teaching of the textual culture in late medieval England, he has also regularly offered courses on topics ranging from the Bible as Literature to modern and contemporary Irish drama.

Having just concluded his term as Chair of the UW Comparative Literature, Cinema and Media, he looks forward to an active retirement which includes completing a long-postponed book on Chaucer.?
