A 33-year-old Central Bank staff member was shot dead during a home invasion in Carapichaima on Thursday night.
Financial examiner Darren Nandlal, 33, died in the house after being shot in the head.
The police said at around 7.10 pm on Thursday, two men walked into the family's yard at Orange Field Road and accosted Nandlal's father-in-law, 80, who was sitting at the front of the house.
One of the men held on to the pensioner and asked, "Where is your daughter?"
There was a struggle and the other man walked past them and entered the house.
He tried opening the door of the bedroom where Nandlal was with his wife, an attorney. Nandlal pushed the door from the inside to keep the stranger out.
The assailant then took out a gun and shot Nandlal once in the head, killing him.
Both attackers then ran out of the property.
Central Division and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) police were called. They visited and gathered evidence.
The police do not have a motive.
Investigations are ongoing.
