Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Sunday resonated with singing, with choirs from various churches under the Church of Central of Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod spreading wings of their vocal ranges of soprano, tenor, alto and bass in an Easter Cantata occasion. Organised by the Synod Classical Music Society, the annual event, dubbed ‘The Choral Easter Cantata’, commemorates the love of Jesus Christ and his ultimate sacrifice on the cross of Calvary.
This year’s event, which warmed up for Easter, attracted 22 choirs who treated the audience to inspiring performances. Some of the choirs that performed at the 2025 Easter Cantata included Masintha Church Choir, Kakule Church Choir, Kubwera kwa Mlengi Choir, Mvama Church Choir and Dedza Church Choir.
In their singing, the choirs celebrated the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the salvation he brought to the world.
Synod Classical Music Society Vice Chairperson Frazer Azere hailed the choirs for their exceptional performances. “We have seen significant improvements in the performance of the music groups compared to previous years,” Azere said.
Nkhoma Synod Music Director Morris Kalimenda said Easter Cantata was a special event that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ through classical music.
“Through cantata, we come together to praise the Lord and celebrate His love using the beauty of classical music to express our faith,” Kalimenda said.
He then thanked the synod for supporting the event, adding that improvements in the choirs’ performances were a testament to the success of the initiative.
