A 41-year-old man was murdered on Thursday morning after dropping off eggs to his neighbours.
Police reported that they received a report of a shooting on the Western Main Road, Cocorite near John Street and found the body of Dillon “Toe-Toe” De Silva in a neighbour's yard.
When Newsday visited, his mother, Dianne Hernandez, 60, said her son was “a bit slow” and though he was 41, had the mentality of a child.
“He was an innocent death,” she said, adding that her son would do odd jobs for neighbours, and his last one was to buy and deliver eggs to a neighbour. While he was leaving, he was killed.
“Who would do Toe-Toe that? He does not be on nobody. This one rock the whole community, because everybody who know Toe-Toe know he not in nothing. Is an innocent death he get.”
Police said the murder happened around 11.30 am, and before midday two suspects, 25 and 35, from Cocorite ,were held. The men were heading east along Independence Square South in a black Toyota Yaris when they were stopped by Port of Spain Task Force officers. The police also seized a loaded gun.
Police suspect De Silva was killed because he was mistaken for another man who lives on the compound where De Silva was killed.
