Today, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced that The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, the bipartisan legislation she introduced with Representatives Chris Stewart (R-UT), Seth Moulton (D-MA), and Greg Gianforte (R-MT), was included in the House approved bill, The Heroes Act.
As a former chief psychiatric nurse, I have spent my legislative career advocating for more accessible mental health resources in our communities,” said Congresswoman Johnson.
“Since the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act passed in the House and Senate through separate mechanisms, we must continue to push for passage of the bill through the Conference Committee, which consists of both House and Senate members, so that this critical effort can become law with the president’s signature,” continued Congresswoman Johnson.
“I remain hopeful that the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act will move quickly through this legislative process, since our communities are in significant need of mental health support and resources during these difficult times.”
The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act directs the Federal Communications Commission to designate
9-8-8 as the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system.
