PCs for People evens economic odds in this day and age when computer access is all—think Internet information and e-mail communication—but many of us can’t afford one.
Jordan Maloney, assistant customer service manager for PCs for People, points up another aspect, education, that can spell the difference between youngsters getting somewhere in life and being left on society’s sidelines.
Founded in 1998, to date PCs for People have refurbished and moved across the counter some 80,000 computers, more than 30,000 internet subscriptions for rock bottom prices, and provided affordable repairs.

All truck drivers employed in Uganda will have to undergo mandatory testing for Covid-19 according to new operating procedures released on Saturday.
As part of the new measures, transport or logistic companies will have to test all their drivers within the country and then adopt and implement the new Truck Driver Journey Management System Mobile application for easier monitoring.
Dr Monica Musenero, an epidemiologist and also the Covid-19 presidential advisor says that the new measures will help reduce the fear and mistrust that Ugandans have had towards truck drivers.
Mr Byron Kinene, the chairperson of the Regional Lorry Drivers and Transporters Association, said the new measures are timely because positive cases of truck drivers are increasing the country’s tally.
However, some truck drivers’ associations are not content with the new measures, saying that the plan needs to be clearly defined to cater for all types of truck drivers.

External budget support
From the external sources, Mr Kasaija projects that Shs2.9 trillion will come from budget support and another Shs9.6trillion will come from project support.
Budget support is a method of financing the budget through a transfer of resources from an external financing agency to the partner government's national treasury.

The game Warri is a board game belonging to an ancient family of pit and pebble games which originated in Africa.The game originated in the Sudan and spread to western Africa from which it travelled to the Caribbean in the 17th century. It is one of the most interesting examples of African heritage surviving in the Caribbean. It is believed to be one of the worlds oldest games and to have derived from some sort of abacus used in accounting. The game has been played in St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Martinique, Dopminica, Suriname and Jamaica. There are also warri tournaments in Barbados but Antigua and Barbuda , with its legions of warri enthusisasts and a vibrant National Warri Association may well be regarded as the last bastion of warri in the region.
Out-of-favour West Indies fast-bowler Ronsford Beaton has joined a list of people on the Essequibo Coast sharing out food hampers during this time of uncertainty owing to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Beaton, who has so far represented West Indies in two one-day internationals and has played 33 first-class matches for Guyana, collaborated with NGO Welead Caribbean which is being run by his sister, Abbigale Lonche, president of the organisation.
According to Beaton, who has featured for Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League tournament, he was ecstatic to come on board.
The seasonal floods in the Rupununi region during the annual rainy season have continuously been affecting region 9, which in extreme cases had adversely affected many communities.
Based on climatic studies in the region, over 80 percent of the annual rainfall occurs during the rainy season in the Rupununi.
In some cases, transportation to and from communities across the region is affected as overland transportation routes are disrupted; at times communication to the town of Lethem, the only regional supply of goods and services is completely cut off.
Before the rainy season, fear of the deadly virus had caused the village councils of communities of the South Rupununi to implement drastic measures in an attempt to prevent transmission, such as preventing the entry of persons and vehicles in and out of their communities.
This was already limiting the transportation of essential goods and services from Lethem to the rest of the region, even before the rainy season.
The reports of the 303 Committee and a memorandum by Thomas H. Karamessines, Deputy CIA Director entitled “Plans of Guyana Prime Minister Forbes Burnham, Leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC), to Rig the Elections Scheduled for Late 1968 or Early 1969” might be a good starting point for anyone who cares about facts.

“In a meeting of high level government and People’s National Congress (PNC) leaders [2 or 3 words deleted*] Forbes Burnham, Prime Minister of Guyana and leader the PNC, gave instructions to rig the election scheduled for late 1968 or early 1969 in order to permit the PNC to win a clear majority.”
It is not lost on younger Guyanese that rigged elections produced a PNC government that inflicted a host of socioeconomic setbacks, including a brain drain that caused long-term damage to the country.
However, as long as the PNC, in one form or another, is the alternative, the Indo Guyanese vote will go to the PPP not because of race, but because of the record, reputation and persistent rigging by the PNC.
That may give elections the appearance of an ethnic contest but that voting pattern is simply a reflection of the fact that the PNC is the alternative.

As the country battles the Coronavirus disease, it is refreshing to learn that health institutions are now opening up treatment and isolation centres for the virus in areas outside the major urban centres.
According to reports, the Nairobi Women’s Hospital has opened a 34-bed Covid-19 isolation and treatment centre in Ongata Rongai, which is set to boost Kajiado County’s preparedness in tackling the pandemic.
With hospital bed space fast running out as the government steps up testing for the disease and the number of cases and deaths rising, the quest to ensure that there is enough accommodation for serious cases is timely.
For example, the Machakos County government in April converted its local stadium into a field hospital in readiness for an increased number of Covid-19 patients.
Somali Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed 71 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total tally of infections to 1,573.
Fawziya Abikar, the Health Minister, said the new infections are from Jubaland in the southern region with the majority of cases 46, Banadir 17, the semi-autonomous region of Puntland which has six and Somaliland two.
She said 10 people recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of people who have been discharged from hospitals to 188.

In his letter Deygoo-Boyer warns of grave consequences for the country and Lowenfield if he does not withdraw the report which has sparked local and international consternation.

Further Section 9 reads, “Sovereignty belongs to the people, who exercise it through their representatives and the democratic organs established by or under this Constitution.”
Mr. Lowenfield, your actions have violated Sections of the Constitution in a deliberate overt act to overthrow the core principle of the Sovereignty of the People and the Electoral System of Proportional Representation.

Like his US counterpart Donald Trump, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has touted the supposed benefits of hydroxychloroquine and a related drug, chloroquine, against the new coronavirus.
Studies, however, have questioned their safety and efficacy against the disease, including one published Friday in respected medical journal The Lancet that found the drugs actually increased the risk of death.
The guideline recommended doctors in the public health system prescribe either chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine from the onset of Covid-19 symptoms.
Preliminary studies in China and France had generated hope the drugs might be effective against the new coronavirus.
\"It wasn't a clinical trial, it was just a data set collected from different countries, and that doesn't meet the criteria of a methodologically acceptable study to serve as a reference for any country in the world, including Brazil,\" she said.
President Barack Obama honored the national champion Ohio State football team Monday, taking just a little bit of credit for the new playoff system that the Buckeyes mastered.
Ohio State won the first College Football Playoff in January, beating Oregon in the title game.
Obama jokingly talked about throwing his political weight behind the idea of a four-team playoff to replace the old system in which voters and computers selected two teams to play for the championship.

Considering the recent events at the African Development Bank, the resignation of the bank's vice-president, Jennifer Blanke, was bound to attract attention.
In an interview with Pan African Visions, Nedelcovych said, \"If competing with the Chinese in Africa is primordial to the US, then supporting the position of our African fellow shareholders in the AfDB and supporting President Adesina is in our own interests.\"
In a June 5 statement by the heads of state and governments of ECOWAS signed by Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou, the West African economic bloc reaffirmed its support of the AfDB president, by noting that \"in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors, Adesina has further strengthened and accelerated the institutions development.\"
The ECOWAS heads of states and governments reaffirmed their full confidence in the leadership of Adesina and \"reiterated their collective support for his re-election... \"
Former Kenyan Prime Minister and the African Union's high representative for infrastructural development in Africa, Raila Odinga, also weighed in and stated that Adesina had made \"commendable strides\" as president of the AfDB.
The support of these African countries and institutions extends to their past leaders led by former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who last month, pointed out the need to speak against the introduction of alien practices being recommended by some parties at the bank and further emphasised the need for the AfDB to remain an African-focused development bank rather than one which serves interests outside Africa.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Uganda has risen to 203 after 43 truck drivers tested positive Saturday.

Central State University (CSU) was one of the first colleges in the United states to be administered by African Americans. It was also unique as a state-funded institution which for sixty years was part of a private college. The school’s beginnings can be traced back to 1856 and the establishment of Wilberforce University. Originally founded in Tawawa Springs, Ohio, Wilberforce was sponsored by the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
In 1887, the Ohio General Assembly established a separate institution to be housed on the Wilberforce campus known as the Combined Normal and Industrial Department. The state-supported school was to focus on training blacks for work in industrial trades and as school teachers. Although the Combined Normal and Industrial Department imposed no restrictions on the race or sex of its students, it was understood that the Department was intended primarily to serve Ohios African American community.
For six decades the Department was administered as part of Wilberforce University. It was set apart, however, by having its own board of trustees which was responsible for administering the state funding of its activities. In 1941, the Department became the College of Education and established a four year program. In 1947 it was declared legally separate from Wilberforce. Although still sharing its campus with Wilberforce, the institution was now the College of Education and Industrial Arts at Wilberforce. In 1951 the Ohio State Legislature added a liberal arts program and renamed the institution Central State College. Former Wilberforce president Charles H. Wesley served as the first president of Central State from 1947 until 1965. Central State became a university in 1965.
The institution grew steadily during the 1950s and 1960s but suffered a huge disaster in April of 1974 when a tornado wiped out over half the buildings on campus. Most of Central States students resumed their classes on campus in less than two weeks but it would take years to restore all of the
