Dr. Michelle Malcolm-James was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and grew up in New Forest, Manchester, where she attended New Forest All-Age School. In 1979, she moved to Washington, DC, to join her mother, and shortly after, they moved to the Bronx, New York.
