Flow hosts pride talk - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

As part of its Love our People quarter and in recognition of Pride Month, staff at Flow participated in a virtual pride talk on June 24.

The session was facilitated by Dr Sue-Ann Barratt, lecturer and head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies, UWI, St Augustine campus.

A media release said vice president of Flow Simone Martin-Sulgan told staff, “As a socially-conscious and progressive company, we support and appreciate our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, family, and friends in the spirit of mutual humanity, love and understanding. We all have the capacity to love, and we can and should respect the choices of others.”

Martin-Sulgan said other type events will continue to be hosted as part of the company’s progressive equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.

Travis Rohit, business sales administrator at Flow and member of the company’s Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG) said, “I think the ERG is a great addition to our company’s culture because inclusivity, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, or any other characteristic, encourages better working conditions and a more pleasant workplace. People will be able to have a sense of belonging as a result, which will increase productivity. No matter what someone chooses, respect for one another is always crucial.”

Leslie-Marie Farnum, administrative assistant of technology who moderated the virtual talk shared her perspective.

“We are making strides towards building awareness and equality but as with most human rights issues, it’s an uphill journey. It is a journey that requires empathy and compassion from one human being to another. Being accepted and valued for who you are is a gift. It is a gift of sincerity and humanity.”

The theme of the event was What does it mean to be human? Seeing self through seeing another/valuing human agency: respect, recognition, choice, freedom.

Flow’s parent company, Liberty Latin America will host its second annual pride summit on June 30.
