Watch our report:
IT has been eleven weeks since the war on the new coronavirus diseases was declared at the Federal level by President Muhammadu Buhari on March 30, 2020.
When we started we had only five testing centres located in Lagos, the FCT, Edo and Osun states.
Today the number has increased to 26, with more springing up in the states.
With massive amounts of funds from governments, the private sector, international donor groups and the able support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, more isolation centres are springing up, along with procurement of relevant equipment and personnel training.
President Buhari's urge for the states to work with the Presidential Task Force is not adequate.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden‘s presidential campaign is bringing on the granddaughter of civil rights leader César Chávez as a senior adviser to help with Latino outreach and building out its operation in the states.
Some Latino leaders have criticized the Biden campaign, saying it’s not doing enough to reach out to the key demographic group.
She’s joining Cristóbal Alex, a former president of the Latino Victory Fund, who serves as Biden’s senior adviser for issues involving Hispanic voters.
He struggled with Latino outreach throughout the Democratic presidential primary, facing pro-immigration protesters, and last November his most senior Latina aide quit the campaign after reportedly raising concerns that the campaign hadn’t focused enough on Latino voters.
Earlier this month, Biden held an online event with the League of United Latin American Citizens at which he focused on the poor conditions experienced by workers at meatpacking plants, many of whom, he noted, are black or Latino.
A Virginia judge has ordered a 10-day halt to Governor Ralph Northam’s plan to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee statue on Richmond’s historic Monument Ave.
Northam announced on June 4 that the monument would come down, after days of heated protests rocked the city.
“The monuments we put in the middle of our cities should be of people we aspire to be,” said Rachel Pais, a protester near the Lee monument.
Police were widely criticized a day later for deploying tear gas on a crowd of nonviolent protesters at the Lee monument.
“To our peaceful protesters: We are sorry we had to deploy gas near the Lee Monument.
Less than two hours after the police department’s explanation, the department issued another tweet: “Chief [Will] Smith just reviewed video of gas being deployed by RPD officers near the Lee Monument and apologizes for this unwarranted action.
A world-renowned sports athlete, professional and currently a TV show host, Deion Sanders was never meant to be mediocre at anything he set his eyes on. One of very few athletes to have ever professionally played football as well as baseball at the national level, Sanders’ marvelous athletic ability and agility led him to live out an extremely fulfilling career. Born on August 9, 1967, in Fort Myers, Florida, U.S.A, Sanders won several major championships in a MLB career that spanned well over 9 years, and an NFL career close to 14 years. Fully demonstrative of Sanders’ immense dedication and popularity in the field, he is also the only athlete in history to have scored a home run and a touchdown within a 7-day period.
In high school and college, Sanders was known to be outstanding in football, baseball and basketball. In Florida State University, Sanders preferred playing in the outfield position in the baseball team, and was particularly known for base stealing, coming close to breaking the university record by compiling 27 bases in 1987. After college, he was signed by the New York Yankees, a very privileged draft that not many baseball players are lucky to be granted. As far as Sanders’ dedication to football was concerned, he was a three-time All American cornerback, known specifically for his unexpected touchdowns. At the same time, he also broke Fred Biletnikoff’s interception return record by returning an interception by one yard. After serving short terms with the Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees, Sanders joined the Atlanta Braves and spent the 1992 season with a batting average of .304, stealing 26 bases and topped the triple numbers with 14 in 97 games. In the 1992 World Series, Sanders batted an average of batted .533 with 4 runs, 8 hits, 2 doubles, all in just 4 games. In the early 2000s, Sanders served a brief stint with the Cincinnati Reds, batting an average of .173 in 29 games, after which he diverted most of his attention to Football.
