Thursday evening, the Georgia House of Representatives voted in favor of creating a 7% tax on vaping products, Senate Bill 375, passing 123-33.
The cigarette tax increase previously approved by the Senate committee would have raised more than $400 million per year.
Currently, Georgia’s cigarette tax rate is 37 cents for a 20-pack, one of the lowest rates in the United States.
Missouri has the lowest tax rate on cigarettes at $0.17 for a 20-pack.
The federal tax on cigarettes is $1.01 per 20-pack.
