Today I start with research on the internet and former head coach national team of Mozambique Abel Xavier is good friend of mine since the time I was head coach of national team of Swaziland.” The Dutchman said since FC Platinum started group training there had been vast improvement in his camp and the players were raring to go. “Starting away is a big advantage as we have to grind a good result there, say a draw and score a goal. Millions of children, especially in Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, are at risk of not being vaccinated against polio and measles because of the coronavirus, UNICEF and the World Health Organization have alerted.
\"It is essential to address the global Covid-19 pandemic. However, other deadly diseases, such as polio and measles, also threaten the lives of millions of children in some of the poorest parts of the world,\" UNICEF and the WHO said in a joint statement issued Wednesday in Abuja.
According to the two organizations, there has been \"a global resurgence of measles with epidemics under way in all regions of the world in recent years.
Gaps in immunization coverage have been further exacerbated in 2020 by Covid-19, they added and called for \"urgent action\" by global donors and policymakers.
The situation in Nigeria, and its nearly 200 million people, is worrying. Although the country was declared free of wild polio in August 2020, it \"remains at risk of outbreaks of polio and measles due to a small improvement in immunization coverage,\" according to the statement.
Only 54 percent of children in Nigeria, for example, have received the first dose of measles vaccine, according to 2018 data.
On Monday, Nigerian authorities announced a sudden spike in cases and deaths from yellow fever, a deadly but vaccinated disease, in two southern regions.
In the neighboring Benue region, at least 17 people have died in recent days from an unknown disease, local media reported Wednesday.

ZIMBABWE’S hope of hosting this year’s edition of IHF Trophy Zone Six still hangs in the balance as countries that are supposed to participate are yet to get approval from their respective governments amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Zimbabwe Handball Federation (ZHF) president Stewart Sanhewe told NewsDay Sport that they were still waiting for the government to approve their submissions. “We were supposed to host this year’s edition of the IHF trophy from April 24 to 30, but this was postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which has hit various parts of the world. Since then we have been on wait-and-see mode. “Like any other sporting disciples we have applied to the government to host this championship, but we have not yet received the greenlight to host it. We gave them our proposals and we are still waiting for their approval and the other thing is of the eight countries which are set to participate, only three of them have been given approval to travel while the rest are yet to get approval from their governments,” he said. Sanhewe said the sporting organisation had been hit hard by the impact of the coronavirus. “It’s a double effect to us because after the outbreak of coronavirus, it means to participate at any international tournaments, we would need to get clearance. It's very expensive in the sense that we would need to carry out COVID-19 tests for every player and we all know how expensive it is and it will also drain our budget,” he added. The tournament is expected to feature eight countries from southern Africa battling it out for honours in the Boys Under-21 and Under-18 categories. The girls’ edition of the fiesta was held in Zambia last year with Madagascar dominating proceedings. Zimbabwe got the go-ahead to host the prestigious event last year, but there had been concerns over the state of its facilities. However, the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) director of sport, Assemian Noel, endorsed the facilities when he visited the country this month. Noel made recommendations before leaving the country for the Ivory Coast on areas he thought needed to be addressed. The games, if approved, would be held at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex, a venue which was also used for the 1995 All-Africa Games as well as the City Sports Centre in Harare.
By BLESSED MHLANGA ELECTORAL management body, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has washed its hands over the by-elections which Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga embargoed citing the novel coronavirus, saying it cannot override an Executive decree. Speaking in Darwendale yesterday at a training workshop for journalists organised by Zec, the electoral body chairperson Justice Priscila Chigumba said the commission was just an administrative body with no power whatsoever to make policy or challenge the Executive. “The role of Zec is persuasive, when I say persuasive, from the Constitution to the Electoral Act, to the regulations our role is only to make recommendations to the Executive, there is no where we are given a mandate, firstly to make regulations on our own behalf. Secondly to make law, we make recommendations to government to the executive, to the line ministry which is the Ministry of Justice that’s the first very, very important point,” she said. Zec announced in October that it was ready to run all by-elections, adding that it would have run all by-elections by December 5, but in less than a week, through a statutory instrument, Chiwenga blocked all by elections. The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission quickly moved in and issued a statement saying Zec’s actions could compromise its integrity and independence. Chigumba, however, said Zec had done its part in terms of the law and the rest was in the hands of Mnangagwa, who is a major player in the elections. “We are a commission which administers electoral law which emanates from Parliament, now if our stakeholders are unhappy with our mandate; it is up to them to buttonhole those in Parliament to change our mandate. “In terms of our current mandate, we recommend the Executive, His Excellency the President to say we believe by such and such a time, in terms of administrative processes, we will be ready to conduct by-elections,” Justice Chigumba said. “Having put this date in the public arena we made our recommendations to the President, he took our recommendations into account, he consulted other stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, I was not privy to the discussions between him and the Minister of Health, but I would like to assume that His Excellency using his executive powers and in his wisdom saw it fit to say by-elections cannot and should not be held during the course of this year.” She said her role did not go beyond making recommendations. “My role starts and ends will making recommendations. I made my recommendations, they were taken into consideration, I have no further role in terms of the Constitution to call upon the Executive and say on what basis did you disregard our recommendations, there is no provision for that in the Constitution,” she said. Tanzania's opposition leader and 2020 presidential candidate, Tundu Lissu has left the country for Brussels.
Lissu contested against incumbent president John Magufuli. He lost to him in what he described as an election held under corruption and voter intimidation.
Lissu had sought refuge in the German Embassy in Dar Es Salaam after multiple threats and fear for his life.
The opposition leader has been living with severe injuries since surviving an assasination attempt in 2017.
He had 12.8% of the electoral voteas against President Magufuli's 84%. Lissu has asked the international community not to recognize the election results.
Magufuli was sworn in for a second-five year term on Thursday November 5 in the Tanzanian capital. There was heavy p olice and army security presence ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile, leaders of the East African nation's two main opposition parties, ACT Wazalendo and CHADEMA, who refuse to recognize Magufuli's win, have been charged with organizing an unlawful assembly.
