THE new Catholic Bishop for the Gweru Diocese Rudolf Nyandoro (pictured) was officially unveiled at a ceremony held at Mkoba Stadium at the weekend. BY STAFF WRITER He was previously Bishop for the Gokwe Diocese and takes over from the late Bishop Xavier Jonsai Munyongani who died in 2017. The Catholic Church News states that, “While the transfer was a welcome move for the Gweru Diocese, it created a vacant post in Gokwe where bishop Nyandoro was serving. However, God knows the time when the gap will be filled.” In his acceptance speech, Nyandoro promised to be humble, obedient, adding that he had found a new home in Gweru. “I never thought that one day I would stand here as the Bishop of Gweru. I had found a home in Gokwe, the diocese I loved so much. My motto since my priestly ordination is ‘let your will be done’, and I still stand to be guided by this vision and it is through this spirit that I accepted the decision of the Holy Father,” Nyandoro said. He urged fellow priests and religious leaders and the faithful to work together to carry forward the vision and mission of the diocese.

He has checked off some items on his to-do list. Trump pushed through the most significant overhaul of the U.S. tax system since President Ronald Reagan. Trump, as he said he would, tilted the Supreme Court further to the right with confirmation of two conservative justices and likely a […]

By DEB RIECHMANN and MATTHEW LEE Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump announced Friday that Sudan will start to normalize ties with Israel, making it the third Arab state to do so as part of U.S.-brokered deals in the run-up to Election Day. The deal, which would deepen Sudan's engagement with the West, follows Trump's conditional agreement this week to remove the North African nation from the list of state sponsors of terrorism if it pays compensation to American victims of terror attacks. It also delivers a foreign policy achievement for Trump just days before the U.S. election […]

By Associated Press Undefined MADRID (AP) — Prime Minster Pedro Sánchez appealed Friday for Spaniards to pull together and defeat the new coronavirus, warning: “The situation is serious.” Sánchez, in a televised address to the nation, acknowledged public fatigue with restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19. But he added: 'We have to step up the fight,' with more limits on people's movement that will demand more sacrifices. Spain this week became the first European country to surpass 1 million officially recorded COVID-19 cases. By NICOLE WINFIELD Associated Press ROME (AP) — The world premiere of a documentary on Pope Francis was supposed to have been a bright spot for a papacy locked down by pandemic and besieged by a corruption scandal, recalling Francis' glory days travelling the world to bless the oppressed. But the red carpet rollout of 'Francesco' has been anything but bright, with evidence that the Vatican censored the pope last year by deleting his endorsement of same-sex civil unions from an interview, only to have the footage resurface in the documentary. Aside from the firestorm the remarks created, the fiasco […]

Electoral authorities in Guinea on Saturday declared President Alpha Conde winner of Sunday's election with 59.49% of the vote, defeating his main rival Cellou Diallo.
\t Some people went to the streets to protest immediately after the announcement. Such demonstrations have occurred for months after the government changed the constitution through a national referendum, allowing Conde to extend his decade in power.
\t Opposition candidate Cellou Diallo received 33.50% of the vote, the electoral commission said. Voter turnout was almost 80%.
\t Political tensions in the West African nation turned violent in recent days after Diallo claimed victory ahead of the official results. Celebrations by his supporters were suppressed when security forces fired tear gas to disperse them.
They accuse the electoral authorities of rigging the vote for incumbent president Alpha Conde.
\t At least nine people have been killed since the election, according to the government. The violence sparked international condemnation by the U.S. and others.
\t ``Today is a sad day for African democracy,'' said Sally Bilaly Sow, a Guinean blogger and activist living abroad. The government should take into account the will of the people who have a desire for change, he said.
ICC warning
The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor warned on Friday that warring factions in Guinea could be prosecuted after fighting erupted.
“I wish to repeat this important reminder: anyone who commits, orders, incites, encourages and contributes in any other way to crimes … is liable to prosecution either by the Guinean courts or the ICC,” she said.

\t On Friday, internet and international calls were cut off across the West African nation in anticipation of the election results, according to locals and international observers in the capital, Conakry.
\t This was the third time that Conde matched-up against Diallo. Before the election, observers raised concerns that an electoral dispute could reignite ethnic tensions between Guinea's largest ethnic groups.
