Mikayla Harris, an HBCU student at Morgan State University in Baltimore , Maryland, received a $15,000 scholarship after winning the prestigious Astronaut Scholarship Foundation award. As she applied for the award, the scholar student was focused on the need to increase the representation of Black women in science, technology, engineering or mathematics ( STEM ). “I wanted to apply to represent Morgan State as well as Black women in STEM. There is not enough biomedical research that includes Black people, people of color and other minority groups,” the senior biology student said in a press release.
