John John woman robbed by taxi driver - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

Police are searching for a taxi driver and his accomplice who robbed a 31-year-old John John woman after picking her up near the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

At around 12.25 am on November 29, the woman got into a gold-coloured Nissan Tiida heading east along the Audrey Jeffers highway into Port of Spain in the vicinity of MovieTowne.

She sat in the front passenger seat and there was a lone male passenger seated behind the driver.

The driver continued onto Wrightson Road and then drove into the gas station at the corner of Wrightson road and Gatacre Street, opposite Licensing Office.

As he drove north onto Gatacre Street, then onto east onto Mc Donald street, the rear passenger grabbed the woman's right shoulder and pressed something against her rib cage.

He told the woman, "Gimme everything," and tried to grab her handbag from her lap.

As the contents of the bag fell out, the driver pulled aside and told the woman, "You could go now."

After she got out of the car, the driver threw her wallet towards her and sped off.

She checked the wallet and saw $740.00 was missing.

Police have a description of the driver and enquiries are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a taxi driver’s car was stolen on November 28, after he picked up three passengers in Glencoe who asked to be taken off-route.

The driver was working the Carenage-Port of Spain route, when the three men stopped him near Massy Stores.

The men asked to be dropped in La Puerta, Diego Martin and he agreed.

Upon reaching Broome Street, near the La Puerta Government Primary School, one of the passengers told the driver to stop the car and began to choke him before hitting him several times in his head.

He tried to fight back but became afraid when the front seat passenger began to shout, “Shoot him! Shoot him!”

The driver escaped the man’s grasp, opened his door and ran off, while the suspects drove off with the car, a silver Mazda wagon, seconds later.

The victim was taken to the St James Medical Complex by police who responded to the incident.

PC Duncan is continuing enquiries.
