Musician Kellie Divine Njuchi is the 11th hour addition to the list of artists travelling to Jamaica for performances under the banner of Flames Band.
The artist, who blends various musical influences including dancehall, joins Don Tarz, Annie Matumbi and Born Afrikan on the tour.
“Confirmed Njuchi in Jamaica. This February. Blasto, Don Tarz, Born Afrikan, Annie Matumbi, Kellie Divine Njuchi backed by The Flames Band. Reggae/dancehall music lives. Malawi to the world,” wrote Kellie Divine Njuchi on her Facebook page.
The tour follows a private visit Minister of Labour Vitumbiko Mumba made recently with Matumbi and Born Afrikan where they engaged the chairperson of Jaria, Ewan Simpson at the Buju Banton Intimate Concert.
The artists were supposed to leave the country yesterday but due to other circumstances it was shifted and thus the team leaves on Wednesday.
“We had some challenges which have been sorting out. This is why we decided to change the travel date from Sunday to Wednesday. We are hoping everything will be sorted out by then otherwise all is set,” Mumba said.
Born Afrikan, who has brought into the country a number of Jamaican musicians, said yesterday that it was inspiring knowing that the people he has always looked up to within the African reggae family in terms of greatness have also made the trip.
“This is a rare opportunity but we are geared, we have had massive rehearsals and we looking forward to offer vibes from Malawi. This means more and it is even great visiting the land of reggae maestro Bob Marley,” he said.
Born Afrikan, who is the team leader, said the tour has come at the right time as February is the reggae month and that it honours the legacy of reggae music and provides a platform for artists from around the world to perform and connect with industry professionals.
“We will not only perform but we will also have a chance to interact with fellow musicians,” he said.
