He scoffed at an unemployed agriculture graduate Dickson Kubvakacha’s solo demonstration against the country’s high unemployment rate which has reduced graduates into paupers. Kubvakacha is the founder and chairperson of the Coalition of Agricultural Graduates of Zimbabwe (COAGZ). Masuka felt obliged to comment after a picture of Kubvakacha selling sweets on a crowded dusty street in Mbare went viral on social media platforms, dismissing it as an attention-seeking stunt. “I want to think that this is a joke and that the comrade in question (Kubvakacha) will immediately remove his social media page. “Last year, I personally addressed COAGZ and Kubvakacha was present where I outlined the procedure for one to apply for land,” Masuka said. The minister said the government provides graduates with opportunities to be taken up by those willing to do so. “I also highlighted numerous opportunities that any agricultural graduate has in the agricultural space. “It cannot, then, be the Zimbabwean government’s responsibility to spoon-feed the individual. “We create opportunities, and it is up to the individual to take advantage of those opportunities or not. “This is extremely disappointing, to say the least,” Masuka said. Kubvakacha said he was not an attention seeker. “As one of the 35 000 unemployed agricultural professionals in Zimbabwe, we have been excluded from government programmes aimed at turning around national fortunes through agriculture. “We are struggling to be relevant after receiving training,” Kubvakacha said. “I am supposed to be in the fields, where my heart is, but our chance is yet to come. “I rented (agricultural land) twice and encountered bitter experiences.”

The Foreign Ministry voiced Iran’s protest to the two ambassadors over French and EU criticism of the execution on Saturday of dissident journalist Ruhollah Zam, who had been based in Paris before he was captured in Iraq and taken to Iran. Zam was convicted of fomenting violence during anti-government protests in 2017. His Amadnews feed had more than 1 million followers. The EU said in a statement after his execution: “The European Union condemns this act in the strongest terms and recalls once again its irrevocable opposition to the use of capital punishment under any circumstances.” The French Foreign Ministry called the execution a “barbaricand unacceptable act”, saying in a statement: “Francecondemns in the strongest possible terms this serious breach offree expression and press freedom in Iran.” Amnesty International and press advocacy group Reporters Without Borders (RSF) also condemned the execution. Hundreds of girls have been reported missing in Nigeria's northwestern Katsina state after gunmen raided their school.
Police report indicate that the gunmen armed with AK-47s, stormed the Government Science secondary school in Kankara district at about 9:40pm local time.
The attack took place in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, and police and the military were still working to determine how many were kidnapped and missing.
The goverment has said that the military had located the gunment and are being pursued.
In 2018, the Boko Haram armed group kidnapped more than 100 girls in the northeastern Nigerian town of Dapchi. And six years ago, in 2014, the same group abducted more than 270 girls in the town of Chibok.
Namibia has appointed a technical team to look into logistical requirements of importing a COVID-19 vaccine.
The southern African country’s minister of health said the team was instructed to study the storage, transport and distribution needs, local newspaper The Namibian reported on Friday.
Namibia lacks the infrastructure needed to store or distribute a COVID-19 vaccine. Most of the vaccine candidates so far require ultra-cold conditions for storage and distribution.
Namibia has paid $1.9m to the COVAX programme, a global initiative aimed at working with vaccine manufacturers to ensure equitable access to safe and effective vaccines - to secure the medicines for her people.
The country targets to vaccinate 20% of its population. Frontline health workers and people of advanced age will be the first recipients of the jabs.
Namibia has recorded 16,097 cumulative cases, 14,332 recoveries and 160 deaths.
The country has a population of nearly 2.5 million people.
Neighboring Angola on Thursday said it expected to receive five million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in February 2021.
Health Minister Silvia Lutucuta said seven million more doses would be delivered in April in partnership with COVAX.
Angola has so far reported 15,925 positive cases, 362 deaths, and 8,679 recoveries.

Morocco on Wednesday announced that it was gearing up for an ambitious COVID-19 vaccination program, aiming to vaccinate 80% of its adults in an operation starting this month.

He initially called 34 players in camp to prepare for the tournament, but was forced to drop six FC Platinum players whose club is engaged in the Caf Champions League. The squad has been training since last week, including playing friendly matches against some local Premier Soccer League teams. On Thursday, the Warriors played against Ngezi Platinum Stars before facing off with Caps United yesterday. Former Warriors captain Denver Mukamba, now with Ngezi Platinum, did enough in the match to convince Logarušic that he deserves to be in the squad. The former Dynamos and Caps United midfielder has already been drafted into the squad. The performance and subsequent inclusion of Mukamba has convinced Logarušic that he could have missed some players who deserve to play in the national team. Speaking to NewsDay Weekender yesterday, Logarušic said: “I’m using the friendly matches against the local clubs to see if there are other players that can fit in the Chan team. The current players in the squad were chosen by my assistants because I didn’t know them. I’m playing these games to see if there are some players we missed during the initial list. “I know just 10 players who I worked with in February in training and that means the remainder I never watched them during matches. That is the reason I have requested for the friendly matches. And it has been beneficial because yesterday (Thursday) I saw Mukamba and I have already asked him to join us. We also played Caps United and I have seen some very interesting players and I am still thinking about them.” Logarusic said his team will play two more friendly matches this weekend. They play Yadah today. “We will check in those matches to see if we can pick some more players.” The Croat is expected to announce the training squad after the Sunday friendly match before the players break for the festive season. The team will regroup after New Year to fine-tune their preparations, from where the final 23 travelling players will be chosen. (Reuters) - Iranian dissident journalist Ruhollah Zam, who was convicted of fomenting violence during anti-government protests in 2017, was executed on Saturday, Iran’s state television reported. France reacted with anger to the hanging of the Paris-based journalist, which it called “barbaric and unacceptable” and said ran counter to Iran’s international obligations. Iran said on Tuesday its Supreme Court had upheld the death sentence against Zam, who was captured in 2019 after years of living in exile in France. His Amadnews feed had more than 1 million followers. State TV said Zam, “director of the counter-revolutionary Amadnews network, was hanged this morning”. The French foreign ministry said in a statement: “France condemns in the strongest possible terms this serious breach of free expression and press freedom in Iran. This is a barbaric and unacceptable act that goes against the country’s international commitments.” Press advocacy group Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the execution. “RSF is outraged at this new crime of Iranian justice and sees (Supreme Leader Ayatollah) @ali_khamenei as the mastermind of this execution,” the group tweeted. Provisional results from LIberia's Special Senatorial elections have put four candidates from the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) in an early significant lead.
The results are seen as a big blow to President George Weah's ruling party the Congress for Democratic Change.
The Elections Commission on Thursday announced preliminary results from eight counties.
Madam Davidetta Brown Lansannah said, the results are from Bong, Nimba, Montserrado, Maryland, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, Margibi, and Gbapolu Counties.”
Speaking at a Press conference, chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Davidetta Brown Lansannah, said “The Liberian people can be rest assured that the Commission will accurately announce the results of the election as expressed by the people through the ballot box.”
The mid-term elections are seen as a test of support for Weah, a former football icon who has faced criticism as president over persisting economic problems.
The opposition is also leading in the country's largest county, Montserrado, which is home to the capital Monrovia, as well as most of the voters in the nation.
Tuesday’s election is regarded to have been peaceful in most parts of the West African country as 2.2 million registered voters went to the polls to elect 15 senators.
The elections occurred alongside a referendum on reducing presidential terms and allowing dual nationality.
The full results are expected to be announced within two weeks.

It is a fake bravery amid the situation getting out of hand. Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri, the chairperson of the COVID-19 inter-ministerial taskforce, on Tuesday presenting Cabinet’s collective wisdom, or lack thereof, said that there was no need to close schools now. She said that the number of those infected by the deadly COVID-19 stood at only 332. Come on, the disease is infectious and once an individual gets it, especially at a school, it is common knowledge that many will be infected and the most logical thing to do is to close the facility. By the way, it is the same Muchinguri, typical of the authorities’ ignorance on the matter, who earlier in the year said COVID-19 was God’s punishment on the West for sanctioning Zimbabwe. COVID-19 is real. It is sad that government is just risking the lives of innocent children and teachers by insisting that schools should remain open. There is no capacity by the government to provide essentials in schools and the spike in numbers confirms that. Despite the denial by the government, all is not well in schools and why Cabinet is choosing not to listen to Members of Parliament who advised them to close down schools immediately betrays logic. The Parliamentary portfolio committee on Primary and Secondary Education chaired by Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga made it clear that opening schools was not ideal and cited several reasons that were canned by the government. It will get worse and we can only wonder whether the government wants the situation to get worse to realise the folly of their action. Even teachers have expressed concern on the matter of reopening schools but they are being forced to attend classes even without proper personal protective equipment. It is absurd to say the least and the argument that numbers are still less is as senseless an argument as it is hazardous. The consequences of such ignorance by the government are dangerous and the regime has not only become a danger to itself but to the entire nation. Maybe they don’t care anymore and that is why they party in numbers and share pictures of their recklessness to the world.
