The recent visit by Nollywood actors Charles Awurum, Nkiru Sylvanus and Charles Inojie has birthed a short film titled Malawi Virus.
The short movie, which Awurum has uploaded on his Facebook page, features Malawi’s State Vice President Michael Usi, who trades as Manganya in the comedy circles.
“Malawi Virus now out on Charles Awurum TV YouTube channel, a clash of the titans. Nigeria vs Malawi. Don’t miss it,” wrote Awurum on his page.
The Vice President was not readily available for his comment on Sunday.
It is not yet clear if the movie is stemming from a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed last month between Film Association of Malawi (Fama) and the three Nollywood actors.
The movie, which looks into the deep issue of corruption, is trending on social media.
In the film, Usi, who stars as Manga, is a Malawian footballer plying his trade in Nigeria, where he ends up snatching a Nigerian lady (Sylvanus) from a Nigerian man (Awurum).
Awurum reports the matter to a police officer up dying a natural death after Manga bribes the police officer.
Inojie, who has starred in lots of films including Aki and Pawpaw, said last month that Africans needed to work together in developing their film industry and tell the continent’s authentic stories.
Inojie said this in Lilongwe during the signing ceremony of an MoU between Film Association of Malawi (Fama) and three Nollywood actors.
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, through Shepherd Bushiri Foundation, committed K40 million to Fama as well as made it possible for the three actors to visit Malawi.
Last year, Bushiri, through his foundation, also signed a movie production agreement with another renowned Nigerian actor and comedian Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Ukwa. It is not yet clear as to whether the Nkem Owoh deal has started bearing fruit.
