The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) has urged the Muslim community to exercise social distancing and stay at home during the upcoming Eid celebration, saying the day could become a \"super-spreading event\".
In a statement on Friday, the MJC asked the community not to gather during the moon sighting, not visit their families on Eid, and instead use technology to create \"special family moments\".
\"Eid can potentially become a super-spreading event which could result in many more people dying, especially if people disobey lockdown regulations and start visiting family.
\"Guidance for performing Eid salaah at home has already been given, however, it will lose its effect if people start visiting each other at home,\" the MJC said.

The MJC also recommended that families do not gather for their Eid meal and instead practice physical distancing to prevent risks associated with Covid-19.

These are local infections as the parents were not in contact with any known COVID-19 positive returnee or travelled out of the city or country recently,” he said. Irimai said the COVID-19 rapid response team was busy doing contact tracing at the parents’ workplaces in the city, as well as the school where the two minors, who are in Grade 7, were going to. “Our rapid response team is busy doing contact tracing to establish who the patients have been in contact with recently. The teachers and classes at the school where the kids are going are likely to be placed under quarantine, the other kids they play with in their neighbourhood, as well as the workplaces of the parents,” he said. “Let us not be complacent, there is a second wave of COVID-19 that is hitting other countries that had relaxed lockdown measures. We are not divorced from such countries as we do not exist on an island. We are not immune from a second wave which can be more dangerous and come with a stronger strain,” Irimai said. During a virtual town hall Monday on the need for more federal funding during the coronavirus crisis, Bass noted the disproportionately high death rates from COVID-19 among Black and Latinx people.
New York City released preliminary data last month showing COVID-19 was killing Black and Latinx people at twice the rate of white people.
Black and Latinx workers are less likely than whites to be in jobs where employees can work from home, with only 1 in 5 Black workers and 1 in 6 Latinx workers able to work from home, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
On Monday, Gallego, who is vice chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, noted that “structural racism” has led to Black and Latinx communities being disproportionately affected by the coronavirus.
LOS ANGELES — As businesses slowly reopen under special COVID-19 county guidelines, several cities in Southeast Los Angeles County have restored street sweeping parking enforcement, ordered trash placed in plastic bags and opened drive-through coronavirus testing sites.
Downey notified residents of its intent to issue tickets the first week of April after residents and businesses complained of trash piles, debris, disposable masks and plastic gloves strewn between parked cars that remained still on posted sweeping days.

Governor JB Pritzker on Monday announced the launch of Illinois’ statewide contact tracing program for COVID-19 cases in two pilot counties as the state begins to fine-tune its latest weapon to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Contact tracing, which was used early on in the state’s coronavirus outbreak when the number of cases was manageably small, consists of tracers interviewing people who have newly tested positive about who they had significant contact with in the past 48 hours.
The two counties were chosen “for having significant needs in terms of case numbers in vulnerable populations, a capacity to grow their contact tracing and great existing collaborations of public health personnel, medical students and volunteers already on the ground,” Pritzker said.
The governor said Illinois’ contact tracing program will consist of three parts: a disease reporting software, a common management platform and an app to be used by coronavirus patients and the people they came in contact with.

The written notice said Manyonga was allegedly caught at Thubelitsha Park in Kayamandi‚ Stellenbosch‚ on spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said: \"A 29-year-old man was given a notice to appear in court for contravening Disaster Management Act regulations on Wednesday.\"
According to AFP, Manyonga, who won the 2011 under-20 world championships, battled a crystal meth addiction which resulted in him being slapped with an 18-month ban from athletics in 2012.
Manyonga had his best season in 2017, pushing the South African record to 8.65m and then lifting the world crown in London.
