THE EDITOR: On July 7 the British people and by extension the global population saw the resignation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party (Tories) and who will eventually give up the PM position.
This was due to senior members of his Cabinet resigning as they could not work with him again due to his transgressions. Johnson showed in following true Westminster fashion that he saw that it was improper to serve in office while his government was collapsing.
Trinidad and Tobago is a former British colony and follows the exact same style of governance through the Westminster system. Sadly, with the current government led by Dr Rowley the Westminster system has been thrown out of the window.
We have seen ministers in Government under investigation, a Prime Minister being questioned about certain government deals, escalating crime, increased unemployment, high food prices, trade unions no longer having confidence in the Government, an Attorney General embarrassing the Government and the country, and the Government collapsing in the Parliament.
Had this been a British government we would already have had the Prime Minister resigning as leader of the PNM and as PM and being replaced. And if that could not be done then we would have had to go back to the polls.
I therefore, in true Westminster style, call upon the PNM ministers and senators to demand the Prime Minister resigns for various transgressions, including having Minister Foster Cummings in his Cabinet while under police investigation and having an AG still in the Cabinet even though he was disqualified from representing the country in a Miami court.
There are so many other issues but those two stand out. Please seek a new mandate in true Westminster style. Call the general election now.
