Investors who entrusted their money to Breedt approached the Eastern Cape High Court in Port Elizabeth for a relief order after numerous promises by Breedt over the past seven months to have their money paid out were allegedly not kept.

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will lobby national government to reinstate a liquor ban under Level 3 lockdown for his province, due to fears that alcohol will harm the battle against Covid-19 infections.
Mabuyane will petition the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, to have the ban on alcohol reintroduced in his province.
Speaking to News24 on Monday, Mabuyane said the province had seen a surge in alcohol-related incidents since the country moved to Level 3.
Since the resumption of alcohol, provincial reports from 1 June until 7 June also indicated a surge in people contravening lockdown regulations, he said.
In May, Mkhize explained how provincial districts would be assigned a lockdown level, saying the government had adapted its approach to combating Covid-19 and shifted its focus to be narrower.

A 35-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for raping and sodomising his estranged wife in Motherwell, Eastern Cape, the National Prosecuting Authority has said.
Zukile July was sentenced on Wednesday by the Port Elizabeth High Court, said regional spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani.
July was handed a life sentence for three counts of rape and three years for assault with grievous bodily harm.
Ngcakani said July and his then-30-year-old victim had attended a family gathering at a relative's house on 30 March 2018.

William Plomer , (born Dec. 10, 1903, Transvaal, S.Af.—died Sept. 21, 1973, Lewes, East Sussex, Eng.), South African-born British man of letters, whose writing covered many genres: poetry, novels, short stories, memoirs, and even opera librettos.
Plomer was educated in England but returned with his family to South Africa after World War I. His experience as an apprentice on a remote farm in the eastern Cape when he was 17 alerted him to the literary possibilities of the South African landscape and established the sensibility of his early works. His first novel, Turbott Wolfe (1925), caused a scandal because it touched upon miscegenation and dared to criticize the supposed benevolence of whites toward blacks, even casting some white characters in the role of villains. I Speak of Africa (1927), a collection of short stories, exacerbated his reputation. Gauteng will emerge with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the coming days, overtaking the Western Cape, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.

He said, when the country moved from lockdown level 4 to 3, there was a large inward movement of people as economic activities resumed.

Western Cape numbers have not yet surged as expected
Touching on Western Cape, Mkhize said the department had received reports that members of the public remained reluctant to subject themselves to quarantine and isolation, despite the government having secured the sites in various parts of the province.
Mkhize said, having compared the real numbers with those depicted in predictive models, the department had noticed that the Western Cape had not quite reached the surge expected by modellers.
