THE EDITOR: Can the PNM government do a Kamala Harris on all TT political aspirants salivating at the possibility of victory at general election 2025?
While I admit to being an armchair political analyst, I believe our true political analysts with university degrees must be thinking that the PNM is like the Democrats in the US in recognising just how to snatch the popular vote by ensuring how to make a resounding political difference.
TT is a democracy and there is no fear of speaking out because we do indeed enjoy untrammelled freedom of information. Our newspapers allow free speech.
Despite the negative remarks about Prime Minister Rowley appointing the very clever MP Keith Scotland to manage the police service as a shot in the dark, think again. Will Scotland have the same effect as US Vice President Harris is having on the popularity of the Democrats in the US?
Harris is a very talented attorney and who can speak - really speak, really inspire confidence.
We all know that rampant crime is the main thing that clouds the PNM's chances of political victory in 2025. Is the collective opposition's response to the PNM based on fearmongering and many untruths fated to be a wrong political modus operandi?
Is there any similarity to the Republicans in the US showing an inability to return to political glory because of using the wrong political tactics? Fearmongering and reputation bashing of key PNM stakeholders by the UNC? Is there any credibility that the UNC can transform TT to immediate perfection? No. Why?
Look at who you are asking.
Political popularity is based on image and the image of the PNM is that it can reinvent itself at every clever political stroke if and when necessary. Example: Breathing new life into the TTPS in 2024 in time for GE 2025.
Without a coalition there is still no political party stronger than the PNM. The so-called prospective coalition parties - NTA, HOPE, COP, PEP - are still not being treated well by the UNC with its formerly acknowledged 300,000 votes.
Is the UNC really willing to share its plethora of votes? Nobody ready to do any talking?
Will Scotland ensure that the TTPS bites the extra bullet needed for decimating rampant crime? Wait and see.
With the assistance of a rejuvenated bail bill, the TTPS can most certainly hit the road running.
Scotland has to/must keep on smiling like immensely talented Harris.
The proof of the TT political pudding will be in the eating for GE 2025.
