THE TT women recorded two victories on day two of the 2023 Rugby Americas North (RAN) tournament at the University of the West Indies Mona Bowl in St Andrew, Jamaica on Thursday.
TT women upset USA South 6-5 which led to massive celebrations as the US were favourites to win.
Kathleen Stephen converted a penalty kick late in the match to seal the victory for TT.
TT also recorded a win over Jamaica 8-7. Nicolette Pantor, who demonstrated her speed during the match, scored a try down the right side to give TT a 5-0 lead.
Stephen then converted a penalty kick as TT opened up an 8-0 lead, before an athletic individual effort from Lovell Evans put Jamaica back in the contest.
Evans ran more than half the length of the field to convert the try. The kick following the try was converted and the score was now 8-7, but TT held on for the win.
The TT men had another mixed day of results. The junior TT team crushed Guyana 33-0 to start the day on a bright note, but later in the day lost 5-0 to Jamaica.
A late try by Jamaica was enough to give the home team the narrow win.
The women’s and Under-19 men’s tournaments will continue on Friday.
