An outbreak of Ebola hit Guinea in March 2014 and spread to Sierra Leone and Liberia. By September, is estimated to have killed about 430 people in Guinea, and there were nearly 650 suspected and confirmed cases of it in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In late August, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak an international emergency. It is the worst outbreak since the virus was first identified almost 40 years ago.

In the Oct. 2015 presidential election, President Conde won a second term. After the election, Conde appointed Guinean businessman Mamady Youla as prime minster. Youlas appointment showed Condes focus on business, including boosting the countrys private sector. Youla assumed office on Dec. 29, 2015.

In March 2012, President Touré was overthrown in a coup by mutineering soldiers who said they were acting in response to the governments response to the rebellion by the Tuaregs, nomadic insurgents of Berber and Arab descent who live in the north. The troops said they did not received adequate support from the government. Many of the Tuaregs had fought for Libyan leader Col. The Economic Community of West African States, a regional trade organization, imposed sanctions on the country, froze the assets Mali held in its bank, and sealed their borders with Mali. President Touré said he planned to honor the countrys term limits and not seek reelection.

Some governments have stared this bleak figure in the eye with all round economic stimulus packages which have included cuts to Pay As You Earn and corporation taxes like the Kenyan government.

Later that evening, she watched a news clip in which the Minister of Finance, Mr Matia Kasaija, said a prospective economic stimulus package was on its way.

To feed the national budget which Parliament had passed and also keep the economic stimulus package hopes alive, the ministry was banking on six quick loans from the World Bank, IMF, French Development Fund and the African Development to raise close to two billion dollars.

As heads of schools donated to the National Task Force on Covid-19, several teachers, especially in private schools, cried out for relief food saying they had not been paid since the president closed all education institutions in March to combat the pandemic.

The Uganda Hotel Owners' Association revealed that their members have been forced to send at least 400,000 employees on unpaid leave due to the Covid-19 lockdown that has plunged tourism, the country's biggest foreign exchange earner and other sectors of the economy, into disarray.

Science desk: The Docs Who Cried Wolf

While many “people across the political spectrum erred” in comparing the coronavirus to the flu, it isn’t their fault, Dennis Saffran argues at American Greatness.

Pandemic journal: Listen to Skeptics

Many media critics of President Trump are “dismayed” at his call to “get our country open” again, casting “the lockdown debate as a straightforward battle between a pro-human and a pro-economy camp.”

Indeed, many “prominent African-American entertainers” are happy to be pictured with him, and Farrakhan even “has his own place of honor in the National Museum of African American History and Culture on the Washington Mall.”

Media critic: A CNN Meltdown

“Call it a symptom of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” snarks Tristan Justice at The Federalist: “CNN’s Brian Stelter suffered an on-air meltdown Sunday over conservative media paying any attention to arguably the largest spy scandal in American history”: the Obama administration’s campaign against the incoming Team Trump.

Of course, those media do cover the pandemic, while Stelter ignores the fact that “CNN led the media’s infatuation with Russiagate conspiracy theories distracting the country from preparing for the kind of pandemic seen today.”

In parts of sub-Saharan Africa, surviving COVID-19 also means fighting stigma.

Over in Cameroon, one such survivor is on a mission to lead the fight against stigma.

“People are scared, people didn’t think COVID-19 could touch them.

It also explored the history of colorism and how it’s consciously or unconsciously taught to Black written and executive produced by D. Channsin Berry, the sequel challenges those who think colorism is an outdated conversation by reminding viewers that it’s still pervasive today.

The sequel also takes a closer look at how societal prejudice based on skin color affects the self-esteem of Black women around the globe.

The trailer follows a woman explaining that in certain parts of Ghana women strive to lighten their skin constantly because “they don’t see themselves as being Black and beautiful.”

Sutton, who initially didn't understand why she'd gained an influx of followers (she was hoping Oprah might have shared one of her photos), responded to the situation in an Instagram post.

\"It started with a Twitter rant using my picture as an example of what is wrong Instagram (the author has since contacted me privately and apologised) and ended with an incredible outpouring of love, support and kindness that I will be eternally grateful for.\"

She then went on to say that she utilizes Instagram as a forum of discussion about the things which bring her joy and as a way to process her mother's death.

Sutton unapologetically added that her Instagram account is just a small glimpse into her world.

Mutare residents say truck drivers and illegal cross-border traders posed the biggest risk of transiting coronavirus among city dwellers because of their continued movements across into neighbouring Mozambique.

However, this has not stopped some daring locals from crossing there illegally, while truck drivers remain the few among groups of citizens permitted to travel across borders.

Residents feel the two groups pose a threat and must be monitored as they pass through the city with security agents implored to increase surveillance on the porous border to curb border jumping mostly during the night.

Fears among residents have been heightened by recent reports some six Zimbabwean truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 in Zambia after crossing through Chirundu border post.

Clive Muchabveyo, a Palmerstone resident in Mutare is apprehensive the country's gains achieved in taming the internal infection rate could be reversed if the movement of truck drivers and illegal cross border traders is not checked.

Fundraising related technology and digital strategies are part of 21st century fundraising.

To do this you need access to your fundraising and donor data; you need to use technology as a management tool that informs your fundraising strategy.

Reports can be expanded to include tracking of gift acknowledgement and recognition; they can also inform other forms of fundraising.

Create engagement strategies, and as appropriate assign donors to “portfolios” for other methods of communication and engagement.

Fundraising success requires access to technology and use of digital platforms.

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism towards black people. BLM regularly holds protests against police killings of black people and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system.[1]

In 2013, the movement began with the use of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin. Black Lives Matter became nationally recognized for its street demonstrations following the 2014 deaths of two African Americans: Michael Brown, resulting in protests and unrest in Ferguson, and Eric Garner in New York City.[2] [3] Since the Ferguson protests, participants in the movement have demonstrated against the deaths of numerous other African Americans by police actions or while in police custody. In the summer of 2015, Black Lives Matter activists became involved in the 2016 United States presidential election.[4] The originators of the hashtag and call to action, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, expanded their project into a national network of over 30 local chapters between 2014 and 2016.[5] The overall Black Lives Matter movement, however, is a decentralized network and has no formal hierarchy.[6]

There have been many reactions to the Black Lives Matter movement. The U.S. populations perception of Black Lives Matter varies considerably by race.[7] The phrase All Lives Matter sprang up as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement, but has been criticized for dismissing or misunderstanding the message of Black Lives Matter.[8] [9] Following the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, the hashtag Blue Lives Matter was created by supporters of the police.[10] Some black civil rights leaders have disagreed with the groups tactics.[11] [12]

Neither graphic reports of the horrors experienced by some in State quarantine nor Prime Minister Andrew Holness' explanation that there is simply nowhere to house them, have dampened stranded Disney Fantasy crew members' pleas to be allowed to come home.

“There is nowhere like home,”one crew member told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.

The rules, first outlined in March then later amended in April, stipulate that cruise lines would only be allowed to let off crew in US territories if they agreed that they do not use public transportation, do not mix with the public on the way home, and do not stay at hotels being used by the general public.

Disney Fantasy crew members have been intently watching all of this as their ship sails to various countries to allow other colleagues to disembark.

We would adhere to two unannounced visits to our house daily and we are willing to sign [documents indicating] that all information given is factual, including health status and home address,” one crew member told the Sunday Observer yesterday, making the case for a return home.

Georgia law enforcement authorities made an arrest on Monday which may be linked to the tragic deaths of Truvenia Campbell, 31, and Vanita Richardson, 19.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) told the News-Tribune that the agency is not prepared to give any updates regarding the case, but described the investigation as “very active.”

The GBI is the primary law enforcement agency probing the case, and officers believe if they discover the whereabouts of the vehicle, they may be able to make an arrest related to the sister’s deaths.

Campbell and Richardson’s bodies were discovered by the Department of Transportation workers on the morning of the 13th near the banks of the Etowah River located in Rome, Georgia.

Lindsay McMichael, 30, posted a crime scene photo showing Arbery’s body lying on the pavement in a pool of blood.

Arbery died on February 23 following a confrontation with Travis and Gregory McMichael, Lindsay McMichael’s brother and father, respectively.

Lee Merritt, one of the Arbery family’s lawyers, criticized Lindsay McMichael’s post and argued there are probably more images floating around.

The Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) described Clarke as a titan of Caribbean media, adding that his mission was centred on press freedom and media independence.

“With his counterparts and friends Harold Hoyte of the Nation in Barbados, J Lester Spaulding of Radio Jamaica Limited, and Ken Gordon of the Trinidad Express, Oliver championed a united regional media giving birth to the Caribbean News Agency and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union.

“The quality and growth of Jamaica's media environment and its excellent level of press freedom attained are the legacies of the work and passion of Oliver.

“Oliver Clarke will forever be regarded as a media pioneer, a press freedom fighter and one who transformed the business of media into a critical contributor to national development.

Describing Clarke as a great Jamaican patriot, NCU President Dr Lincoln Edward said the late businessman “advocated tirelessly to protect and promote press freedom across the Americas through international forums such as the Inter-American Press Association as well as the Commonwealth Press Association

He pointed out that it was in recognition of Clarke's distinguished public service that the university conferred on him the Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, during the institution's commencement in August 2013, where he delivered the keynote address.

Music mogul, Russell Simmons first made his debut with Def Jam Records, he then launched his clothing line Phat Farm. Now, Russell Simmons is presenting his latest venture in the advertising world.

Simmons recently launched Narrative, a digital marketing, entertainment and technology company, with his longtime business partner Tricia Clarke-Stone.

While many might label this latest venture as an advertisement agency, both Clarke-Stone and Simmons are quick to avoid referring to it as such.

“We want to make sure agencies don’t view us as a competitor,” said Ms. Clarke-Stone. “We’re not trying to be agency of record for different brands and clients. We believe we have a level of expertise that’s really rooted in creating immersive brand experiences across platforms.”

Narrative is a company that touts itself on providing marketing solutions for publishers, agencies and brands.

“We work for agencies, we’re not an agency,” Simmons added. “We’re a digital solutions [company]. We think our future is working for agencies, not working around them.”

The company’s purpose is to create digital campaigns driven by social media, branded entertainment and celebrity-driven content, using techniques such as crowd-sourcing, gamification and rewards.

These campaigns are also distributed through pop-culture, entertainment, music and lifestyle websites. Equipped with behavioral-data analytics and a custom ad-serving platform, among other technologies, the company is launching with high hopes of being just as successful as Simmons other businesses.

“We’re creating unique experiences that we’re producing, and then we have the technology to be able to scale it across platforms and then deliver really highly robust analytics,” said Ms. Clarke-Stone.

Narrative is launching with about 9 employees, and by end of year Mr. Simmons and Ms. Clarke-Stone expect to have close to 20, mostly based in New York, with some key people in Los Angeles.
