Outspoken singer-turned-chef Kelis is making it clear what side she stands with in the fight for justice for Black people.
The “Caught Out There” songstress has long been vocal about her support for Black businesses, entrepreneurs and artists in the music industry.
Now is no different as thousands gather for protests and demonstrations demanding police reform and justice for Black people killed while in custody.
Identifying with various struggles of the Black community, on the same day she put up her “for the people” post Kelis shared a post from music critic and USC professor Josh Kun addressing the injustices enacted against music artists working to make a living off their talents.
“IF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WANTS TO SUPPORT BLACK LIVES, LABELS AND PLATFORMS CAN START WITH AMENDING CONTRACTS, DISTRIBUTING ROYALTIES, DIVERSIFYING BOARDROOMS, AND RETROACTIVELY PAYING BACK ALL THE BLACK ARTISTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES, THEY HAVE BUILT THEIR EMPIRES ON.”
