Babatunde Adepoju leads golden boot race

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ striker Babatunde Adepoju has set an early pace in the chase for the 2025 TNM Super League golden boot award.

The Nigerian is leading the way with five goals from five matches, just one above his closest rival Zeliati Nkhoma of Kamuzu Barracks.

Adepoju wrote his own piece of history when he became the first foreigner to win the TNM Super League golden boot award with 18 goals, three above his closest rival Muhammad Sulumba in 2022.

Adepoju also came close to winning the golden boot award in 2019 but finished second to Khuda Muyaba, who was playing for Silver Strikers then.

Muyaba won the accolade with 21 goals, becoming the first player to score more than 20 goals in a season in a decade.

Last year’s golden boot award winner, Isaac Kaliati, is yet to score a goal in the current campaign.

Kaliati is struggling to break into the Mighty Wanderers starting line -up this season.

Sports analyst Parry Chinyama believes the race for the golden boot award will be the most exciting ever.

“There is a long way to go. I expect more players to fight for the accolade,” he said.

The winner of the golden boot award will pocket K2 million plus a miniature.

Meanwhile, Bullets and Wanderers are the only teams that have a 100 percent record in the current campaign.

The People’s Team is leading the log table with 15 points from five matches, three points above Wanderers, who have played a match less.

Defending champions Silver Strikers are eighth on the 16-member log table with seven points from four matches.

Rookies Songwe Border United anchor the log table with just one point from six matches.
