Chitoliro Productionz, organisers of Urban Music People (UMP), said on Wednesday they were satisfied with the outcome of the UMP College Cypher Awards.
Spokesperson Marie Thom said the outcome of the cyphers and awards process had been positive and that it generated excitement in colleges across the country and on the urban music scene.
“UMP College Cyphers provide students with a platform to showcase their talents, fostering healthy competition and artistic growth. This initiative is there to empower young creatives, connect universities and the creative sector,” Thom said.
A total of 13 cyphers were recorded, representing universities such as Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must), University of Malawi, Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas), Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes), Mzuzu University (Mzuni), Catholic University of Malawi, University of Livingstonia, DMI, Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA), Magu, Bunda, Natural Resources College (NRC) and Blantyre International University (BIU).
The awards featured five categories namely Best Verse (male and female), Best Lyricist, Every School’s Finest and Best Cypher.
The Best Verse (male) went to DF of Kuhes whereas Edickel Reigns from Must bagged the Best Verse (female) with the Best Lyricist going to Ademma of Catholic University.
Kuhes underlined its strength when it also bagged the Best Cypher.
On Every School’s Finest, the winners are Prisper Proud Skies (University of Livingstonia), B3NTRX (DMI), Prosper (Magu), Chavncy (Mubas), Cathedral ( BIU), The Livest Group (Mzuni), Mphatso The Rapper (Bunda), Dronie (NRC), DF (Kuhes), Edickel Reigns (Must), Kyte Fly (MCA) and Xmth (Unima).
The winners have been awarded medals and recording opportunities under Chitoliro Productionz new record label.
The UMP College Cypher Awards comes up as Chitoliro Productionz also gears to hold UMP Music Awards in October, when it will run during UMP Festival.
