The Historic Greenwood Chamber of Commerce announced during a June 18 press conference they are launching a campaign to raise funds to restore Black Wall Street, a once affluent black community.
Since the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s announcement in January to restore Black Wall Street, Dr. Freeman Culver, president of the chamber, joined forces with Detroit activist Horace Sheffield, III.
After speaking at an event in Detroit, Culver asked Sheffield, III to chair the Black Wall Street Project.
Organizations from Detroit to Tulsa and renowned activists across the nation have agreed to rally together to support the Black Wall Street Project including Al Sharpton, Dr. Cornel West, and actors Hill Harper, and Erika Alexander.
Historic Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s vision for Black Wall Street is to be recognized as a thriving, dynamic, and eclectic area in Tulsa encompassing four distinctive business districts surrounded by diverse, safe, and desirable neighborhoods.
