Columbia (BNC) — Since the murder of George Floyd, over 300 protest across the nation has sparked, however, independent movement “Million Man March” in Columbia, South Carolina has put a new spin on how protest are seen in the United States.
The origins of the Million Man March dates back as far as October 16, 1965, when Louis Farrakhan orchestrated the first mass gathering across the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to protest civil rights.
Though the movement has Nation of Islam ties, the chapter rooted in South Carolina chose not to highlight it the day of the march.
One of the organizers, Sterling Jackson told BNC, for him, this march meant more for him than just organizing another protest.
According to lead march organizer Leo Jones, the overly dressed event was very intentional, as it doubles down the idea of celebrating solidarity and happiness in the Columbia community.
