TRINIDAD AND Tobago's men's flying 200-metre world record holder Nicholas Paul makes a welcome return to top-flight competition when he contests the opening round of sprint qualifying at the Tissot International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Nations Cup in Cali, Colombia on Sunday.
This will be Paul's first major race since he suffered a broken collarbone after a crash in the men's sprint semi-final at the Nations Cup in Glasgow, Scotland in May. He has fully recovered.
Paul begins his sprint quest on Sunday from 9 am (TT time).
Joining him in Cali are compatriots Akil Campbell and Kwesi Browne.
Campbell, an endurance cyclist, goes for gold in the men's elimination race on Friday from 7.47 pm (TT time). He will be hoping for a repeat of his Nations Cup performance last year, where he won elimination gold at the same venue in September.
And on Saturday, Browne, who made his Olympic debut with Paul in Tokyo last year, opens the first round of men's keirin qualification from 10.47 am.
The trio is also chasing precious UCI points towards their respective UCI World Track Cycling Championships qualification campaigns. World champs rides off in Saint-Quentin en Yvelines, France from October 12-16.
They are joined in Colombia by team manager/coach Ian Cole and mechanic Elisha Greene.
