[spotlight] Over a hundred vaccine candidates are under development for COVID-19 globally. Twelve of these are undergoing large-scale phase III clinical trials to assess their safety and efficacy. Vaccines being developed by BioNtech/Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford University/AstraZeneca all appear to be highly effective based on preliminary findings--although not all effective vaccines will necessarily be appropriate for use in South Africa.
