LOS ANGELES — The county Board of Supervisors delayed action June 9 on a proposal that would have reformed use-of-force policy for the Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies.
Supervisors Janice Hahn and Mark Ridley-Thomas filed the motion in support policies recommended by Campaign Zero’s “#8CantWait” campaign.
The motion would have called on Sheriff Alex Villanueva and all 46 police departments in Los Angeles County to adopt the eight new use-of-force policies.
According to Campaign Zero, “police departments with all eight of these use-of-force policies implemented would kill 72% fewer people than departments that have none of these policies in place.”
“These are eight steps that can be taken right now by all of our law enforcement departments that are proven effective in reducing the number of people killed by police and sheriff’s deputies.
