D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Friday that phase two of the city's reopening plan amid the coronavirus pandemic will begin Monday.
The mayor said the District has experienced 15 days of sustained decrease in community spread of COVID-19 during the first phase for reopening the city, which began May 29.
"As we plan for the changes ahead, it is critical to remember that even though we have more testing, contact tracers, and hospital capacity than we did in March, this virus is still in our city, region, and nation," Bowser said.
Bowser laid out the new conditions on the government's coronavirus website, which include limiting mass gatherings to 50 people and allowing nonessential businesses to permit indoor shopping, but only at 50% capacity.
As of Friday morning, the District had 9,952 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 530 related deaths.
