The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences responded to actor David Oyelowo‘s claim that Academy members wouldn’t vote for the film “Selma” because the cast wore “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts to the New York premiere in 2014.

“Six years ago, ‘Selma’ coincided with Eric Garner being murdered,” Oyelowo told Screen Daily.

’”

“I can’t breathe” was the phrase repeated by Eric Garner, a Black man who died in Staten Island, New York, in 2014 after now-fired NYPD cop Daniel Pantaleo put him in a chokehold during an arrest that was caught on video.

Garner’s death sparked protests in the United States and around the world, with people calling for justice and the end to police brutality.

In 2015 a female Academy member who wouldn’t give her name told the Hollywood Reporter that she was offended by the “Selma” cast wearing the ‘I Can’t Breathe” shirts, proving Oyelowo’s claim.

Two Sides of the Law: Derwin Brown and Sidney Dorsey

Atlanta born and raised, Sidney Dorsey is a former Dekalb County sheriff born February 23, 1940.

Four years later, his loss to Derwin Brown would result in a murder that put the former lawman behind bars.

The paths of Sidney Dorsey and Derwin Brown would cross one last time on a December night in 2000, a night that would end fatally for one of them.

Years later as sheriff, Dorsey pushed for the case to be reopened as he had major doubts–as did others such as author James Baldwin–that Wayne Williams didn’t commit the murders.

Since the late 1970s, Brown was part of the Dekalb County sheriff’s office.

It was like a rollercoaster of emotions and I found myself reliving my own experiences while juggling the frustration of my young adult daughter and my elderly mother.

George, Breonna, Sandra, Eric, Philando, Trayvon, Aubrey, Tamir, Jordan, and so many others did not have that opportunity.

I have listened to the stories of my mother witnessing police brutality when she was a young woman or watching my grandmother as a senior citizen being called gal by a younger white woman when I was a girl.

Babylon is mentioned several times throughout the Bible especially during the time of exile of the Jews in the book of Jeremiah: “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce.

Madagascar on Sunday announced the first death of a patient suffering from novel coronavirus, nearly two months after it was first detected in the country.

The 57-year-old hospital worked died on Saturday and had underlying diabetes and high blood pressure before he was infected, an official from the anti-coronavirus task team said.

He was a car park attendant at a hospital in the eastern city of Toamasina.

Several African countries have ordered or expressed interest in the purported remedy, which is known as Covid-Organics.

But the World Health Organization has warned against \"adopting a product that has not been taken through tests to see its efficacy\".

Hey, wouldn’t you just love to see President Donald Trump and his Republican regime locked up in a room forced to listen to The O’Jays song “Ship Ahoy” I bet they’d truly get our point on slavery Reparations you think?

You see when Obama first became president in 2008 he instructed his then- Speaker of the House, yeah Nancy Pelosi, to demand that Congressman John Conyers “to take Reparations off the table cause he didn’t want to talk about it, because it was too controversial!”

And now House Bill HR40 which Congressman Conyers pushed for more than 14 years that called for a study of slavery Reparations is now in the hands of Congresswoman Shelia Jackson-Lee of Houston.

The original leaders that first created the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement of 2014 in the aftermath of Mike Brown’s death are NOT involved in leading this current uprising.

The type of slavery practiced in America was extremely horrible and purely inhumane because for the first time in history a law was passed making a person a slave from birth to death!
